Winter Flower Show 2012

Winter Flower Show 2012 was organized on 6th  – 8th  January, 2012. The show was inaugurated at 3 pm on Friday, the 6th January by Prof (Dr.) Malabika Sarkar, Vice Chancellor Presidency University.  There was a Sit and Draw competition held in the morning of 7th January when 500 school children from  various schools of Kolkata including Physically challenged children of Manovikas participated.  Certificates of participation were handed over by Mrs. Padmini Narayanan, wife of HE Governor of West Bengal. Prize distribution to the participants and the closing ceremony was held on Sunday, the 8th January, 2012. Sri Partha Chatterjee, Hon’ble Minister in charge -  Industry and IT, Govt. of West Bengal,  gave away the prizes and graced the closing ceremony.
House Plant Expo 2011

House Plant 2011 was organised on 10 - 13 November, 2011 with various programs, activities and participation by several enthusiastics. The show was inaugurated on 10th November afternoon by Prof. Sabyashachi Bhattacharya, Chairman, Indian Council of Historical Research. Shri Debashis Kumar, MIC, Parks and Garden, KMC and Pandit Tanmoy Bose were present. A total of 61 participants with 282 entires were present in the show. There was Inter School Debate Competition and a Seminar on recent development and prospect of fruit culture in West Bengal. The show was closed with the prize distribution ceremony given by Shri Arun Lal, emminent Cricketer, on 13th November 2011.

Dr. William Carey, known as the "father of modern missions” was born on 17th August,  1761, had  established The AGRI – Horticultural Society of India in 1820. This year we are paying our sincere homage to this great soul through various programmes "The Carey Footprints" to celebrate his 250th Birth Anniversary.

On 22nd September, 2011 we organized a Panel discussion and Interactive session on Rev.Carey’s various aspects of life. Students and teachers participated in the Interactive session. Serampore Municipality and Asiatic Society actively participated during the interactive session. We would jointly organize various programs throughout the year along with these two organization to spread the message of the great soul.

The Annual Flower Show 2011 was held at the lawn of the Sociery from 10 to 13 February, 2011. Major competitors were  NTPC, Farakka, Flora, NTPC, KMC, Shri Karan Paul. Eastern Railway, G.M., Shri Prodyut Naskar, Shri Anup Kr. Santra, Mr. Harish Bagla, Apeejay. Surrendra Group. Amra Sabai. Ananda Marg Farm, Indira Gandhi Water Treatment Plant, Jeerat 400 KV Sub Station. Shri Nikhil HAzra. Number of pots were 13136 (against last year 11810) and Number of entries in different sections were 1942 (against last year’s 1885).. The show was inaugurated  on 10 February, by Justic Barin Ghosh, Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court in preence of Sr. SB Ganguly, The President of AHSI , members and dignitaries. Prizes were given away on 13 February by HE KR Narayanan, Governor West Bengal in presence of distinguished dignitaries. Most exotic varieties like Clianthus, Stocks, Orchids, Dimorphotheca Digitalis, Nemetia, Rudbeckia and many others were on display.

The Winter Flower Show 2011 was held at the lawn of the Society on 7 to 10 January, 2011. The show was inaugurated on 7th January 2011 at 3 pm. by  Shri Arabindo Maharajji (Secretary, Aadaitya Ashram, Ramakrishna Mission) and Mr. Md. Mustafizur Rahman (Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh).  Prizes were given away on 10 January, 2011 by MR. Suresh Man Shrestha, Consulate General of Nepal in India and Mrs. Amita Chatterjee, Vice Chancellor, Presidency University. The show mainly comprised of Chrysanthemums, Roses, Dahlias and Gladioli. No.  of entries were  1198 and No  of exhibits were 5948.

House Plant Expo-2010

The House Plant Expo 2010 was organised from 11 to 14 November, 2010 at the lawn of the society. This is perhaps the oldest and the largest House Plant Expo in the country and has become exceedingly popular ever since its inception. It is now an integral part of the horticultural activities of State. It was a promotional event which not only promotes growing of house plants but also expand market for plants suitable for beautification of houses, offices, ships etc. The event covered competition in a number of Sections for House Plants, simulated beautification of Drawing Room, Bed Room, Kitchen etc. in an allotted stall (10’ x 10’) with plant. During this event, different nurserymen and dealers / manufacturers of agri products, machineries, tools took up stalls for sale of products.

Annual Flower Show 2010 was held on 4 – 7 February, 2010 at the society’s lawn. The show was opened by Air Commodore B.C. Talukdar on 4th afternoon. Sri Sarad Khaitan, President welcomed all in the show. After Opening of the Show, the Prize Distribution of Winter Garden Competition 2010 was held.  An ART CAMP was organized jointly with Rotary Club of New Ballygunge, Kolkata.
Eminent artists like Sunil Das, Dhiraj Chakraborty, Subroto Gangopadhyay, Chandana Bhattacharya, Dipali Bhattacharya, Jaya Ganguli, Anup Giri, Swapan Poley etc. took part in the Art Camp. Prof. Katsuhito Kurata from Japan demonstrated techniques of Ikebana under Ikenobo style. Prize distribution and closing ceremony was held on 7 February, 2010.
Justice Shyamal K. Sen, Ex-Governor, West Bengal, Ex-Chief Justice, Allahabad High Court, Chairman, Human Rights Commission, WB and Mr. Dhiraj Chowdhury, an eminent artist were present at the Prize Distribution Ceremony / Closing Ceremony.

Attractions of the Show

  • International Photographic Salon on Nature Section. Photographic Association of Bengal will be displaying prints as well as screen slides of the Winning Photographs in RPG Hall.
  • Wafu Ikebana School of Japan under the leadership of Mrs. Kazuko Nigam 
  • Shailpik Craft Centre showed floral decoration under the leadership of Dr. Pushpanjali Basu in HBK Hall.
  • Competition of Cut Flowers took place in HBK Hall.

Winter Flower Show 2010 is being organized at the society's lawn on 8, 9 & 10 January 2010. The inauguration of the show will done by Cdre CS Azad, in-charge Naval Command, West Bengal at 3.30 pm on 8th January, 2010 and the prize distribution will be done by Sri B Bhattacharya, Chairman Tea Board, at 4 pm on 10th January, 2010. There will be a photographic exhibition from 8 to 10th January, 2010. Purshpa Bitan, a Flower Arrangement Show will be held from 8 to 10th January, 2010. Sit and Draw competition for the children aged between 6 and 16, will be held at 10 AM on 9th January, 2010.

Mango Mahotsava 2009 was organised from 12 to 14 June 2009 at the central lawn of The Agri-Horticultural Society of India. The Utsava was jointly organised by The Agri-Horticultural Society of India (AHSI), Deptt. of Food Processing Industries & Horticulture, Govt. of WB, Indian Chamber of Commerce, Kolkata in collaboration with NHB, Govt. of India, APEDA, Govt. of India & NABARD, Govt. of India.

His excellancy Sri Gopal Krishna Gandhi, Honourable Governor of West Bengal inaugurated the Mega Event in presence of distinguished dignataries in the afternoon on 12th June, 2009.

The mango show for the first time was organized in an air conditioned pavilion  in the vast field of the society to keep the exhibits fresh. Seminars and work shops  were held on 13th June and the prize distribution was held before the closing  ceremony on the afternoon of 14th June.

Good Medicine works – March 13, 2009
Interfacing with the revolution in Global Ayurveda – the captioned seminar was held at the society auditorium on 13th March, 2009. Dr. Bhaswati Bhattacharya,  Director DINacharya Institute of  New York was the key note speaker. The seminar was attended by the researchers, industry people from ayurveda and herbal medicine, the Government institutions and the members of the society. The seminar was opened with the welcome address by Sri Gaurav Swarup, President AHSI.  Dr. Bhattacharya gave her key note addresses on globalization of ayurveda and participated with the audience in question answer session. At the end of the first half of the seminar,  the official website for Global Ayurveda Convention 2009 was launched for the  7 day long international convention proposed to be held in Kolkata in the month of December, 2009. After the lunch break,  there was again interactive session and at the end,  Sri Nirupam Sen, Secretary AHSI gave the vote of thanks. The seminar was convened by Mrs. Anupama Mitra and Dr. Rehman on behalf of AHSI.
