The Annual Flower Show 2008 was held from 08th to 10th February, 2008 at the vast lawn of the society. The Show was sponsored by Birla Eastern, Dunlop and ONGC and cosponsored by Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum. During these three days of program, thousands of exhibits were displayed by hundreds of participants including Kolkata Municipal Corporation.

The show was inaugurated on the afternoon of 8th February by Dr. Kripasindhu Basu, Vice Chancellor, Rabindra Bharati University amidst presence of Sri BK Nahata, President AHSI and distinguished guests and sponsors. Sri Nahata welcomed all while Sri Sujit Chakaborti, Chairman Exhibition Committee, appraised all about the Show. Dr. Basu, the chief guest gave his invaluable address. Vote of Thanks was given by Sri Nirupam Sen, the CEO & Secretary of AHSI.

It was first time this year that the Cut Flower show was organized in the Kanoi Hall of the society. There was a photographic competition held on 9th Feb. Calcutta Chamber Orchestra enchanted all with their band on the evening of 9th and 10th February. The prize distribution ceremony was held on 10th February in the afternoon when Sri Subodh Kanti Sahay, the Minister, Government of India, gave away the prizes.

The Winter Flower 2008 was organized at the lawn of the society from January 04 to 06, 2008 amidst huge participation and visitors. The show was inaugurated on the afternoon of 4th January by Sri Satyabrta Mukhopadhyay, ex Minister, Government of India and a nature lover, in presence of dignitaries and visitors. Sri BK Nahata, the President of the society, welcomed all and Sri Sujit Chakraborti, Chairman Exhibition Committee, narrated the event in details. The program was conducted by Sri Nirupan Sen, the CEO of the Society.

On Satrurday, the 5th Jan, there was a sit and draw competition for the children, jointly organized by the society and Marwari Mahila Samila when school children took part in the competition in the morning of 5th January. Prizes were given away.

Table decoration of flowers were done by the school children. Bouquet, Vase arrangement, garland making competition also evoked a lot of interest amongst the gardeners. The exhibits were Chrysanthemum, Dahlia, Rose,  Gladiolus, Marigold and Perennial Flowering Plants.

The prize distribution ceremony was held on Sunday, the 6th January at 4 pm. Justice Shyamal Sen, ex-Chief Justice and Governor of West Bengal, gave away the prizes. Shri BSR Prasad, General manager (Mids-corporate) State Bank of India was present in the prize giving ceremony. The show was open to all from 7 am to 7 pm on all days and was declared close in the evening of 6th January, 2008.

The Foliage Plant Show 2007  which was declared as “The National House plant Expo – 2007”, was held between 22nd and 25th November, 2007 at the main lawn of The Agri Horticultural Society of India.  The expo was jointly organized by AHSI and Department of Food Processing Industries and Horticulture, Government of West Bengal.

The show was inaugurated on 22 November by Prof. Arun Kumar Sharma, the eminent scientist in presence of Sri Mohanto Chatterjee, Minister in charge Food Processing Industries and Horticulture, Government of West Bengal and Sri Atanu Purakayastha, the Secretary, Department of Food Processing Industries and Horticulture, Government of West Bengal and other distinguished guests.

A total of 650 pots were displayed and 67 participants  including Kolkata Municipal Corporation exhibited their ;products. The 4 day show was enjoyed by thousands of visitors every day.

A debate cum interaction was organized with the school children on 23rd November.  A seminar cum workshop on “To throw light on better Cultivation and management Practices of House Plants” was organized on 24th November, 2007.

The prize distribution ceremony in different categories was organized on the closing day on 25th November, 2007.  Justice Chittotosh Mukherjee gave away the prizes. The show was then declared close on the evening of 25th November, 2007.

Mango Mahotsava 2007

The Mango Mahotsava 2007 was held from 15th to 17th June, 2007. The event was organized jointly by the Department of Food Processing & Horticulture, Government of West Bengal and The Agri Horticulture Society of India in collaboration with Indian Chamber of Commerce. The Mahotsava was participated by both the government sector organizations from different states and the private mango growers. The event was inaugurated on 15th June by the Minister in charge Food Processing, Government of West Bengal. There were seminars and interactive sessions amongst the mango growers, packagers and the scientists. The prizes were given away by Smt. Meera Bhattacharya at a colorful ceremony on the evening of 17th June, after which the utsab was declared close.
